1. Literary drafts, both typescript and handwritten, including: the plays "The Cherry pickers" (c. 1970), "The Gods Look Down" and "Ghosts in Cell 10" (1979); a collection of thirty poems, "Cry of Love" (c. 1970); an entry for the Judy Inglis essay competition, 1969; and "Because a white man'll never do it" (c. 1973). 2. Typescripts and proofs of interviews prepared for "Living black", c. 1977. 3. Correspondence, 1973-77. Fourteen letters, including carbon copies of letters written by Gilbert. Most of the correspondence is with Penguin Books and includes memoranda of agreements to publish. 4. Final draft with publisher's amendments of "People are legends", 1978. 5. Manuscripts and typescripts of children's poems collected by Gilbert for possible future publication, n.d. 6. Clippings of reviews of Gilbert's books, 1976-79.

Poet, playwright, artist and Aboriginal rights activist. While imprisoned for his wife's murder (1959-71) he began writing and producing linocuts. He was instrumental in establishing the Aboriginal tent embassy in Canberra in 1972.
